The Last Game

Things have gotten eerie. I was pretty sure that we had witnessed the final baseball game for 2020 before the season really ever got started, before George Mason and the A-10 called the season. As COVID-19 makes its presence known in the USA, we have started to witness the shutdown of institutions and businesses, life as usual. I am sad and yet ready to figure out what this means for our crew.

It is unsettling. For all of these students, it can be enough to derail that honor roll track record without a solid structure. But as I have already begun to express to my student clients - we will take what worked in the physical world and see where we can adapt it for whatever this new virtual schooling model becomes. We will all learn together. ADHD brains can often be ignited by a crisis in the moment. I’m mindful of the fact that managing longevity can become its own cross to bear.

I have no idea how this will impact my own livelihood. For now, I am simply focused on that “one next step”. My clients are very familiar with this mantra. The first step in getting unstuck is figuring out where you need to go to move forward. Micro-steps. Minute pieces of action. I’m finding this is particularly comforting when there is no clear image of the future that we are coming to know.

I’m just giving everyone a little extra grace and compassion and advising them to try doing the same. Each of us approaches stress in a different manner. Each of us responds to support in our own way. This current scenario is experienced differently by each of us moment by moment. For those in my sphere, I’m ready to paddle alongside you.
