Distracted

Why is this a challenge and how can you help?

Students may get distracted easily because there is so much to keep track of in a busy classroom. Children need to have a clear understanding of what tasks need to be completed and how to allot sufficient time to complete tasks. Timing tasks can be a good way to help a student progress monitor as they are working to complete an assignment.

Tips

  • Fidget toys can help students focus their mind on a task.

  • Timers are a great tool for helping a student focus. A visual timer is great for younger students.

  • Divide assignments/tasks into manageable chunks for the child to complete.

  • Privacy barriers are great to help a student stay focused. You can even staple together a few folders and laminate it to make it cost-effective.

  • Noise cancelling headphones can help a child focus by eliminating environmental noise.

  • Visual or written flow chart with guidelines on how to start a task and get focused.

  • Pomodoro Method
